"The Doc"

"The Doc" is for just as it sounds — doctors who have served in the Navy. Not all ships will sail with a doctor, but all are grateful when they do. The red stripe is worn on the doctor's rank slides of their uniform to identify this crucial skill set in times of need. The tradition of the red stripe has been in practice since 1918.
